Search ICE Detainee Releases

To find someone released from the ICE detention system, use the immigration locator only when facts support civil immigration custody. Northampton County has no identified ICE detention facility or official local ICE detention contract, so the search concerns a named person, not a local ICE site. A disappearance from county jail information can reflect transfer to ICE rather than release into the community. Likewise, release from ICE says only that ICE custody ended. The best search uses an exact A-number or carefully matched biographical data, reads the agency status, accounts for the locator's limited recent-release window, and checks the prior custodian when the transfer path remains unclear.

ICE Detainee Release Paths

ICE detention is federal civil immigration custody. It is not a county jail sentence and not BOP sentenced-prison custody. A Northampton County detainee may leave the county jail because ICE or another agency assumes custody. In that event, the county booking record should show a transfer or receiving agency when recorded. The person has left Northampton custody but has not necessarily entered the community.

An ICE release result is also custodian-specific. It means ICE custody ended. It does not decide a criminal case, prove that another agency has no hold, or establish that every legal obligation ended. Place the county release or transfer date before the ICE event and keep both labels. If ICE release follows a county transfer, each agency documents a different stage.

Local status: No ICE detention facility or county ICE detention contract was identified in Northampton County from the official sources reviewed.

Confirm an ICE Detainee Release

Use the official Online Detainee Locator System, commonly called ODLS. The strongest search uses the exact nine-digit A-number and country of birth. If an A-number has eight digits, add the leading zero required to make nine. A name search requires exact biographical data and can be less certain when names have variants.

  1. Choose the search method. Prefer A-number plus country of birth when available.
  2. Enter exact data. For name search, use the person's full legal name and the requested biographical fields.
  3. Read the custody result. Identify whether ICE reports current detention or a recent release.
  4. Check the time limit. ODLS is not a permanent public archive of past ICE custody.
  5. Trace the prior agency. Ask Northampton County whether the jail recorded an ICE transfer and on what date.

ODLS does not search children under eighteen. A no-result query may reflect spelling, identifier error, age, a release outside the public window, or a record not returned by the system. It must not be converted into proof that ICE never held the person.

Northampton ICE Locator Scope

ICE's attorney-information resource says ODLS can locate people currently detained by ICE or released from ICE within the last 60 days. That narrow release window makes the tool useful for a recent transfer question but weak for older history. After the window closes, absence does not disprove the earlier detention or release.

ICE's official attorney resource describes the locator scope represented below.

ICE attorney information explaining Online Detainee Locator System scope

The source supports the current-or-recent function, while a specific result and the prior custodian's record are still needed for one person's timeline.

Read ICE Release Results

The locator is designed to help identify detention status, not to supply a full criminal or immigration case file. Keep the search inputs and status in context. The A-number is the most durable immigration identifier. Country of birth is part of the number search. Exact name and biographical data serve as the alternate route.

ODLS itemWhat it means
Nine-digit A-numberPrimary immigration record identifier used for a precise search
Country of birthRequired match field with the A-number route
Exact name and biographical dataAlternate match route when the A-number is unknown
Current detention resultICE reports the person in its custody
Recent release resultICE reports release within the public locator window
No resultInconclusive without checking identifiers, scope, and timing

Do not restate a recent ICE release as final resolution of an immigration matter. The locator reports custody status. Court, immigration, supervision, or another agency record may be needed for the legal outcome or present status.

Northampton Jail to ICE Transfer

When a person vanishes from Northampton County custody information, call the Chief Jailer and ask a precise question: is the person no longer held, what date and time ended county custody, what disposition is recorded, and is a receiving agency named? If the answer identifies ICE, the county event is a transfer. Search ODLS with the strongest identifier and keep the county timestamp as a separate fact.

Northampton publishes no public roster or recent-release feed. It also publishes no stated jail-to-SAVAN update cadence and no official local ICE contract in the material reviewed. The lack of an online county entry therefore cannot distinguish release, transfer, court movement, or a corrected booking. The source booking and release record is essential.

Note: A county jail disappearance is not proof of community release, especially when a transfer or detainer may control the next custody stage.

ICE Detainee Records Contact

There is no local ICE facility contact to publish for Northampton County because no operating ICE detention site was identified there. Use ODLS for the public status check. If the person was first in county jail, the Northampton Sheriff remains the source for the local release or transfer entry. A request should identify the booking episode and ask for the receiving agency as recorded.

ICE and Northampton Channels

ICE custody search: Online Detainee Locator System
ICE scope source: Official attorney information resources
Northampton detention: Chief Jailer Anna Gee, 252-534-3901
County record question: Release date, time, disposition, and receiving agency
Local facility status: No ICE detention facility identified

If the public ICE result is insufficient, use official ICE contact or records routes appropriate to the person's case. Do not send an ordinary county jail request to ICE or ask the Sheriff to interpret an immigration outcome. Each office should confirm only the record it created.

Build an ICE Release Timeline

Start with the last confirmed local booking. Add the Northampton County release or transfer timestamp and disposition. Next, add the first ICE custody result that can be supported. If ODLS later reports release, record that as the end of the ICE custody episode. A later court or agency record may then explain the next legal stage.

This sequence helps when dates appear to conflict. A court disposition, county jail release, ICE admission, and ICE release can occur on different days because they measure different acts. The agency that held the person when each stage ended is the strongest source for that stage. Use exact wording such as “transferred from Northampton County custody” or “released from ICE custody” rather than the broader word “released” alone.

Detainer is a request or notice affecting custody handling; it does not by itself prove the person entered ICE custody or was released.

ICE Release Identity Limits

Record identity also needs care. The A-number is stronger than a name match, especially when spelling order, compound surnames, or transliteration differ between systems. Compare the country of birth and other permitted biographical data. If the jail record names ICE but ODLS returns no result, recheck the identifier and the public time window before concluding that the transfer did not occur.

For an older ICE episode outside ODLS release visibility, preserve the Northampton transfer record and use the appropriate official ICE case or records channel. The online locator's limited scope is not a retention rule for all agency files. It only defines what the public tool is designed to return.

Separate ICE from Other Custody

NC DAC covers North Carolina state prison and state community supervision. BOP covers federal sentenced-prison custody. ODLS covers ICE civil immigration detention. Northampton County Detention Center covers the county custody episode. None of these tools is a universal roster, and a no-result in one cannot fill a gap in another.

The Northampton County released-inmate search starts with the last known custodian and follows any named transfer. Use BOP only for facts supporting federal sentenced custody, NC DAC only for state prison or supervision, and ICE only for an immigration path. A court docket can explain legal authority but may not show the exact physical handoff.

ICE Release Search Limits

ODLS is not a permanent release certificate. Its recent-release window is short, its name matching depends on exact information, and it excludes children under eighteen. The research also found no official Northampton statement about ICE transfer practice, local contract terms, or a published timetable for sending jail events to notification systems. Those facts remain unknown.

Ask bounded questions and preserve the source. If an oral agency answer supplies a detail, note the date and staff role. Written records should control when later obtained. Avoid using a neighboring county's detention practice to fill Northampton gaps. This careful scope keeps a local jail transfer, current ICE detention, and recent ICE release from being mistaken for the same event.
